BOSTON–Avra Estiatorio has opened a new location in Boston’s Back Bay, marking the restaurant group’s first entry into the city and its eighth location overall. The restaurant is situated within the Lyrik development at 400 Newbury Street and began service on April 22.
The restaurant is owned by Nick Tsoulos and Nick Pashalis, who have expanded the brand across several major U.S. markets. The Boston location continues Avra’s focus on Mediterranean seafood, with a menu centered on whole fish, seasonal vegetables, and Greek olive oil. Seafood is flown in daily and displayed on ice, allowing diners to select their fish for preparation.
Menu offerings include grilled or salt-baked whole fish, as well as dishes such as zucchini and eggplant chips and Chilean seabass souvlaki served with roasted red pepper sauce. In addition to seafood, the restaurant serves lamb, chicken, steak, and a range of traditional Greek dishes. Olive oil used in the kitchen is sourced from a family farm in the Peloponnese region of Greece.
The menu draws inspiration from the coastal town of Nafpaktos, where Tsoulos spent part of his childhood. According to the owners, the concept emphasizes simple preparation methods and ingredient quality.
The Boston restaurant was designed by Rockwell Group and occupies the second floor of the building. It has a seating capacity of approximately 250 guests, including a main dining room, bar, and three private dining areas. Design elements include a salt wall installation, amphora vessels, olive trees, and large windows. An indoor-outdoor dining space is also part of the layout.
Avra Estiatorio is currently open for dinner service seven days a week. Brunch service is expected to be introduced at a later date.
