BOSTON — Moddie Turay, President and CEO of the Massachusetts Housing Investment Corporation (MHIC), will be among the featured speakers at the upcoming “Multifamily, Affordable Housing & MBTA Communities Act Roundtable,” hosted by Boston Real Estate Times on April 22 at the Burlington Marriott Hotel in Burlington, MA.

The event, scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., will convene industry leaders at a time when access to capital, rising development costs, and evolving public policy are reshaping the housing landscape across Massachusetts.

Turay is widely recognized as a leader in community development finance, overseeing a portfolio of more than $1.4 billion in assets and directing approximately $200 million in annual investments at MHIC. His experience spans both public and private sectors, including founding City Growth Partners in Detroit and serving in senior leadership roles driving large-scale economic development initiatives.

At the roundtable, Turay is expected to offer insights into how capital can be deployed more effectively to support both affordable and mixed-income housing, particularly in a high-cost environment. His perspective will be critical as developers and policymakers seek financing solutions that can unlock stalled projects and accelerate housing production.

Turay is also likely to address the growing importance of public-private partnerships, the role of mission-driven investment, and the evolving landscape for tax credit financing—key tools in closing funding gaps and advancing equitable development.

The discussion will cover a wide range of pressing topics, including innovative financing strategies, zoning reforms tied to the MBTA Communities Act, and the challenges of maintaining project feasibility amid economic uncertainty. Panelists will also explore how the industry can respond to the region’s ongoing housing shortage with scalable, sustainable solutions.

Joining Turay on the panel are John B. Cruz III, President and CEO of Cruz Companies; Ian Gillespie, Founder and CEO of Gillespie and Co., Inc.; David A. Libardoni, Partner at Nutter; and Michael J. Mattos, Executive Director of Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc.

Part of Boston Real Estate Times’ signature breakfast series, the roundtable is designed to bring together top decision-makers for candid, high-level dialogue. With housing affordability and production at the forefront of regional priorities, the April 22 event is expected to attract a strong and diverse audience from across the real estate community.
