Brookline, MA— Chestnut Hill Realty will officially unveil the Franklin Building this Wednesday, completing a multi-year transformation of Brookline’s Hancock Village into a vibrant, 1,300-unit residential community.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled for 4:00 PM on May 21 at 201 Sherman Road, will celebrate the opening of the Franklin — a new, 250-unit apartment building that now brings Hancock Village’s population to over 3,000 residents. The Franklin is the final phase of a long-term plan to modernize and expand the 100-acre development.
An eight-story structure with 20 percent of its units designated as Affordable, the Franklin significantly increases housing availability in the Greater Boston area. The building is part of the broader 461-unit Residences of South Brookline (ROSB) project, developed under the Commonwealth’s Chapter 40B statute to address the region’s ongoing affordable housing shortage.
Wednesday’s celebration will feature remarks from Chestnut Hill Realty Founder and CEO Ed Zuker, Brookline Select Board Chair Bernard Greene, and MassDevelopment President and CEO Navjeet Bal. In keeping with Hancock Village’s homage to Revolutionary War heritage — with buildings named after signers of the Declaration of Independence — the event will include Founding Father impersonators, music, and family-friendly indoor and outdoor activities.
A photo opportunity and building tour will follow the ribbon cutting, providing attendees with a firsthand look at the community’s evolution into a multi-generational, mixed-income neighborhood of apartments and townhomes.
As part of the festivities, Zuker will also present a $10,000 donation to Brookline’s Baker School Parent Teacher Organization, underscoring Chestnut Hill Realty’s ongoing support for local education.
The Franklin follows recent additions to Hancock Village including the 127-unit Adams Building, the 36-unit Bartlett Building, and 48 new townhomes, collectively contributing 91 Affordable units to Brookline’s housing stock.
