BOSTON — WinnCompanies has awarded $70,000 in scholarships to help 59 residents of its managed apartment communities and 10 dependents of company team members pursue post-secondary education during the 2026-27 academic year.

The Boston-based housing company announced the awards Sept. 15 through its WinningEdge Scholarship program. The scholarships will support recipients attending colleges, universities and professional trade schools.

Of the 59 resident scholarship recipients, 48 live in apartment communities managed by WinnResidential in California, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C.

The other 11 recipients live in privatized military housing operated by WinnResidential Military Housing Services in Hawaii, Kentucky, New York and Texas.

“The WinningEdge Scholarship program offers a downpayment toward a brighter future for residents and the loved ones of team members,” said WinnCompanies CEO Gilbert Winn. “In just 14 years since we started the program, we have awarded more than $970,000 in scholarships to support hundreds of people pursuing their educational goals. We’re happy to reaffirm our commitment to improving the lives of the people we serve.”

Recipients selected through competitive process

The scholarship awards followed an evaluation process conducted by WinnCompanies’ nonprofit partner, uAspire, and an internal company committee.

Applicants were evaluated based on their academic performance, financial need and demonstrated leadership in school, their communities or their places of work.

The selection process also included reviews of applicants’ academic transcripts, essays and personal references.

The program is designed to help residents and family members of WinnCompanies employees meet the costs associated with continuing their education after high school.

This year’s awards bring the total amount distributed through the WinningEdge Scholarship program to more than $970,000 since its launch 14 years ago.

The scholarships will assist recipients as they pursue degrees and professional training across a range of post-secondary educational institutions.

Through the program, WinnCompanies continues its focus on supporting educational opportunities for residents of its managed communities and the families of its employees.
