Funding from the Charles H. Farnsworth Trust will support redevelopment of Rogerson House, adding affordable senior housing and expanded memory care services.
BOSTON — Rogerson Communities has received a $665,000 grant from the Charles H. Farnsworth Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, to support the redevelopment of its flagship memory care community, Rogerson House, in Jamaica Plain.
The funding will help advance plans to transform the 3.2-acre campus, located across from Jamaica Pond, into a larger community offering both affordable senior housing and expanded memory care services.
The redevelopment will include the construction of 41 affordable independent living apartments and 66 new memory care units, replacing the existing memory care facility. The six-story building will also house Rogerson’s memory care social day program, a Fitness FIRST center, and more than 20,000 square feet of outdoor space, including four landscaped garden areas.
The project is part of Rogerson’s broader effort to expand its housing and care services in response to the growing demand for affordable senior housing and dementia care across Massachusetts.
“By 2030, nearly two million Massachusetts residents will be over the age of 60,” said Walter Ramos, president and CEO of Rogerson Communities. “And more than half of them will lack the resources they need for housing and care. At the same time, dementia rates continue to rise—more than 150,000 people in the Commonwealth struggle with it, and that’s expected to double by 2060. The need couldn’t be more clear: We must modernize and expand our flagship community to continue delivering the compassionate care Rogerson is known for.”
Ramos said support from philanthropic organizations is critical to advancing the project.
“To have philanthropic partners who recognize this need as clearly as we do, and who step forward to help meet it, is inspiring,” he said. “We are tremendously grateful to the Farnsworth Trust for their vision and their generosity.”
Rogerson House has long served older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia through specialized residential memory care. The redevelopment is intended to modernize the campus while increasing access to affordable housing and services for seniors.
Founded in 1860, Rogerson Communities is one of Massachusetts’ oldest nonprofit organizations dedicated to senior housing and aging services. In addition to memory care, the organization provides affordable housing, supportive living, adult day health, and community-based programs for older adults throughout Greater Boston.
