BEVERLY, Mass. — Northshore Phoenix High School has moved to a new home at Cummings Center, where the specialized recovery high school is now operating from a 10,744-square-foot facility designed for educational, therapeutic and administrative uses.
Northshore Education Consortium, which operates the school, relocated the program from 112 Sohier Road to 100 Cummings Center in time for the start of the 2026-27 academic year.
The move follows a major renovation of the new space by Cummings Properties. The work included electrical and HVAC upgrades, specialized life-safety features and changes to the facility’s layout, plumbing, entryways and interior finishes.
Cummings Properties said its design and construction teams completed the project ahead of schedule, allowing Northshore Education Consortium to begin the school year at the new location rather than face a mid-year relocation.
“We’re delighted we could provide a space tailored to the school’s needs and deliver it in time for the start of the academic year,” Stephanie Aitchison, vice president of Cummings Properties, said in a statement.
Northshore Education Consortium, founded in 1975, provides special education services to children and young people with emotional, behavioral and developmental challenges across 20 North Shore school districts.
Its Northshore Phoenix High School program serves students ages 14 to 21 whose lives have been affected by substance use. The school was previously known as Northshore Recovery High School.
The new facility was built out to accommodate the particular requirements of a recovery-focused educational program, with classroom, therapeutic and administrative areas incorporated into the space.
The relocation also creates an opportunity for the consortium to reconsider how it uses its former facility on Sohier Road. According to Cummings Properties, NEC plans to put the former school site to use for other programs serving its students.
“The expedited relocation allows NEC to move ahead with plans to put the school’s former facility to productive use for programs serving its other students,” Aitchison said.
The move continues a longstanding relationship between NEC and organizations within the Cummings network. Cummings Center previously provided temporary space for NEC and the recovery high school in 2020 while renovations were being completed at the Sohier Road facility.
Friends of the Northshore Education Consortium, the organization’s nonprofit arm, has also received grant support from the Cummings Foundation.
Northshore Phoenix High School is joining a range of educational and human-service organizations already operating within Cummings Properties’ Beverly portfolio. Those organizations include Montessori Kids Universe, Bright Horizons Early Education and Preschool, Magical Beginnings Learning Center, Aspire Learning Center, BCI Learning Center, Communitas, NEEDS Center and the Morgan Memorial Goodwill North Shore Training Center.
The broader Cummings Center campus is a mixed-use property housing businesses, nonprofit and service organizations, medical providers and other amenities. Tenants and services at the Beverly campus include the U.S. Postal Service, salons, medical offices, restaurants and child and adult care providers.
For NEC, the relocation places the Phoenix program within a larger multi-use campus while providing a purpose-built environment for its students and staff.
The school began the new academic year in its Cummings Center location following completion of the renovation.
