Newton Highlands, MA — CTA Construction Managers has been awarded the contract to construct the new Countryside Elementary School in Newton Highlands, Massachusetts, marking a significant step in modernizing the city’s educational infrastructure.
The new 76,000-square-foot, three-story facility will be built adjacent to the existing school building, allowing students and staff to remain on-site throughout the duration of the project.
“This transformative facility will be constructed with phased construction, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing school operations,” said Pat Tompkins, Principal at CTA Construction Managers.
Originally built in 1953, the current Countryside Elementary School has long faced challenges including outdated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with space constraints and accessibility limitations.
Designed by DiNisco Design, the new school will be the first city-owned building in Newton to feature a geothermal heating and cooling system, highlighting the city’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. “The school will feature the first geothermal heating and cooling system implemented in any city-owned building in Newton,” said Josh Morse, Public Buildings Commissioner for the City of Newton.
CTA Construction Managers brings deep experience to the project, having previously completed the Spaulding Elementary School and currently managing construction at Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School for the city. The company also shares a two-decade-long partnership with DiNisco Design, making this their eighth school collaboration.
“This project reflects Newton’s forward-thinking approach to education and sustainability,” said Donna DiNisco, Principal at DiNisco Design Inc. “We are honored to continue our work with CTA Construction Managers and the City of Newton to deliver a modern learning environment for future generations.”
Project management is being led by Dore & Whittier, marking their third project with the City of Newton. “We’re honored that the city continues to trust us with managing such high-profile and impactful capital projects,” said Mike Burton, Partner at Dore & Whittier.
Construction of the new Countryside Elementary School represents a major milestone in the city’s investment in sustainable infrastructure and 21st-century learning environments.
