BOSTON– The Boston Society of Architects (BSA) has announced the results of its recent member elections, introducing new leadership for its 2027 Board of Directors and governance committees. The newly elected members will officially assume their positions during the Annual Meeting at the organization’s End of Year Celebration on November 12.
Katie Faulkner, FAIA, LEED AP, CPHC, principal at West Work, will become president of the BSA Board of Directors for 2027. She succeeds Alison Nash, AIA, LEED AP ID+C, CPHC, WELL AP, sustainability coordinator at Sasaki, who concludes her term as president after serving on the board since 2021. Nash will transition into her final year of service to the chapter.
Nash reflected on the organization’s progress and the importance of preparing its next generation of leaders. During her tenure, she helped guide the nearly 160-year-old organization as it continued to strengthen its role as a gathering place for architects and the broader design community.
“I am thrilled to welcome new leadership to the Boston Society of Architects as I transition from 2026 President into my final year of service to the chapter,” Nash said. “Having served on the Board of Directors since 2021, I have been part of strengthening our over nearly 160 year old organization into a vibrant place of convergence for our members with the broader design community. I look forward to sharing my past lessons to prepare our future leaders to continue the BSA’s upward trajectory.”
Faulkner said the incoming board represents a wide range of professional perspectives, including architecture, education, public service and advocacy. She emphasized the importance of that diversity as emerging technologies reshape architectural practice, design processes and the profession’s future workforce.
“Architects can help shape those changes with the same judgment and rigor we bring to our buildings,” Faulkner said. She also highlighted the BSA’s new home at 99 Chauncy Street, describing it as a downtown storefront open to both members and the public, where conversations about the future of the profession can take place.
Joining the 2027 Board of Directors, Tom S. Chung, FAIA, principal at Leers Weinzapfel Associates, was elected first vice president/president-elect and is scheduled to serve as BSA president in 2028. John Martin, FAIA, LEED AP, principal at Elkus Manfredi Architects, was elected treasurer. Kelly Ard, AIA, partner and president at designLAB architects, and Jennifer Hardy, AIA, principal at Goody Clancy, were elected directors. Wendell T. Joseph, Assoc. AIA, design studio manager at Envision Resilience, was elected public director.
New members were also selected for several governance committees. The Ethics Committee will include Reuben Zeiset, AIA, architect at Fogarty Finger. Aoife Morris Viglianti, AIA, supervising architect in the City of Cambridge’s Capital Building Projects Department, and Soo Jin S. Yoo, RA, LEED AP, principal at OverUnder Architecture, were elected to the Honors & Awards Committee.
The Nominating Committee will include Jason McDonald, planner with the City of Boston Planning Department, and Nikul M. Patel, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, associate at William Rawn Associates, Architects Inc. Zhanina Boyadzhieva, AIA, associate at Leers Weinzapfel Associates Architects; Nick Gilpin, AIA, architect with the City of Boston Planning Department; and Joshua L. Ssebuwufu, Assoc.
