BOSTON– Eastern Bank is providing tax-exempt bond financing as the sole lender for the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common, a new 10,000-square-foot civic space at Boston’s Museum of Science designed to bring the public together with leading voices in science, technology and innovation.

The state-of-the-art venue will serve as a hub for discussion, discovery and immersive experiences, encouraging lifelong engagement with science. Featuring floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the Charles River and 270-degree views of the Boston skyline, the space combines its striking setting with advanced media, production and livestreaming capabilities. The technology will allow programs and events hosted at the Museum to reach audiences beyond New England and around the world.

“ The William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common and its plan to serve as a public convening space for the Museum of Science will continue to shape how we all understand science,” said Yongmei Chen, senior vice president and group director of Community Development Lending at Eastern Bank. “We are proud to support the Museum of Science with the tax-exempt bond financing and setup of this new public space, aimed to benefit everyone’s access to science, technology and innovation for years to come.”

The financing reflects Eastern Bank’s broader commitment to community development and supporting nonprofit organizations through customized financial solutions. Its Community Development Lending group provides funding for affordable housing and nonprofit initiatives through construction and real estate loans, working capital lines of credit, New Markets and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit financing, tax-exempt bonds, and treasury management and deposit services.

Eastern Bank’s team advising on the Museum of Science project included Chen; Erik Jones, senior vice president and Community Development Lending team leader; and John McBride, senior vice president and Community Development Lending relationship manager.

The William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common will expand the Museum of Science’s role as a regional resource for education, public engagement and scientific exploration, providing a contemporary gathering place where ideas and innovations can be shared with audiences locally and globally.
