TRIA Hires Two Senior Designers

BOSTON TRIA, a partner-led architecture firm with a focus on designing unique spaces for science, technology, and corporate clients, announced that two new senior designers have recently joined the firm: Becky Boyer, IIDA, NCIDQ as Senior Interior Designer, and John D. McDermott, AIA, NCARB as Senior Project Architect.

TRIA’s design team leverages its own research practitioner experience and first-hand knowledge of scientific organizations to bring equal parts scientific rigor and focused client service that result in innovative design solutions. Using both technology tools and a progressive “form follows culture” design philosophy, TRIA holistically integrates lab design and interior design to transform spaces into beautiful, functional centers that help companies thrive.

Becky Boyer, IIDA, NCIDQ – Senior Interior Designer

Becky brings 17 years of experience working on various architectural specialties, including lab/ biotech, corporate office, residential, education, military, hospitality, and community center projects. Distinguished with both the Herbert Glassman Award (2008) and the Lussier Practice Award (2007) at the Boston Architectural College, and most recently with the 2019 Preservation Award from the Cambridge Historical Society for her work on Novartis’ 211 Massachusetts Ave. project, Becky is committed to delivering the highest quality work to her clients. Her mastered skill set includes space planning layouts, finish selection, millwork design and detailing, FF&E selection, and specifications.

Becky’s portfolio of life sciences projects includes Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research, Genzyme, Johnson & Johnson, and Bristol Myers Squibb, which won the ISPE Facility of the Year Award in 2016. Becky received a Master of Interior Design from Boston Architectural College and a Bachelor of Psychology from Boston University.

John D. McDermott, AIA, NCARB – Senior Project Architect

With more than 35 years of experience in the AEC industry, John has participated in the design and construction of hundreds of buildings and facilities encompassing a variety of verticals including biotech, pharmaceutical, corporate, industrial, education, recreation, and hospital and medical clinics including Proton Therapy facilities. He is a technically skilled architect with extensive experience in construction, including work as a general contractor. John’s solutions for the technical challenges of design and construction are targeted to keeping the project on schedule and on budget, while successfully meeting the client’s program.

His clients include Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Partners Healthcare System, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Children’s Hospital Boston, and the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Mass. John graduated from University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Architecture.
