BELMONT, Mass. — The Hamilton Company has announced a new commercial lease agreement with The Woolly Brew Corp. for approximately 1,347 square feet at 55 Brighton St. in Belmont, with the new café and yarn shop expected to open in September.
The lease commenced Aug. 1 and will bring a new specialty coffee and community gathering space to Brighton Street. The Woolly Brew will serve specialty coffee drinks, teas and other light café beverages while also operating as a yarn store catering to knitting enthusiasts.
The business will be located next to Beyond Fitness and near Belmont High School, along one of Belmont’s key commuter corridors connecting residents to Boston, Cambridge, Route 2 and Interstate 95.
“We are excited to bring The Woolly Brew Corp. to our commercial property on Brighton Street in Belmont,” said Jameson Brown, chairman and CEO of The Hamilton Company. “They are an emerging company that will be an asset to the community.”
The Woolly Brew is being launched by sisters Jo-Ann and Cheryl Spera, who describe the business as a longtime dream and envision it as a welcoming gathering place for the community.
“Opening this store with my sister, Cheryl, is a longstanding dream of ours,” said Jo-Ann Spera, co-owner of The Woolly Brew. “That’s precisely the energy we plan to bring to the Woolly Brew – we want our customers to feel like an extension of our family.”
The sisters, who are third-generation Massachusetts residents and businesswomen, said they plan to partner with Massachusetts-based businesses that share their emphasis on thoughtful and ethical practices. In addition to coffee and beverages, the store will offer customers a place to socialize, connect and knit.
“We look forward to giving back to our Belmont community by providing a space where friends and neighbors can connect and sip – and even knit!” Spera said.
The café’s location is expected to benefit from its position on Brighton Street, a heavily traveled route used by commuters heading toward Boston, Cambridge and major regional highways.
“Brighton Street is one of Belmont’s primary commuter routes for residents traveling to Boston, Cambridge, Route 2 and I-95,” said Carol Rash, The Hamilton Company’s director of commercial property and asset management. “The revenue potential for a high-quality cafe and coffee retailer at our property is huge. We’re very enthusiastic about our partnership with this new commercial tenant.”
Jo-Ann Spera of Jon-Son Associates represented The Woolly Brew in the lease negotiations, while Rash represented The Hamilton Company.
