BOSTON — The team behind popular Seaport eatery Stubbys is expanding its footprint in the neighborhood with the opening of Sugar’s Hot Pizza, a new New York–style slice shop set to debut May 15 at Boston’s Seaport District.

Located at 29 Northern Ave., just steps from Stubbys, Sugar’s Hot Pizza will serve pizza by the slice, whole pies, deli-style sandwiches, soft serve, and classic dessert offerings in a casual walk-in setting designed for quick visits and repeat customers.

Owner Saugat Mali said the concept grew directly from feedback gathered through operating Stubbys in the neighborhood.

“Sugar’s is about keeping it simple,” Mali said. “We’ve spent the last few years getting to know the Seaport community through Stubbys, and one thing we heard again and again was that people wanted a true slice shop. This is our take on that — a place where you can walk in, grab a big slice, and know exactly what you’re getting every time.”

The restaurant’s name comes from a nickname that emerged after Mali’s name was repeatedly autocorrected to “Sugar,” a moniker that ultimately stuck.

The menu will focus on New York–style pizza, featuring both classic staples and specialty pies. Offerings include traditional cheese and pepperoni slices alongside options such as a vodka sauce pie topped with chicken cutlets, “The Green Marnster” with pesto and garlic aioli, and “Hot Stuff,” made with jalapeño, capicola, red onion, and hot honey.

Sugar’s signature slice — a classic cheese slice topped with burrata and basil — will be available daily, along with rotating specialty slices like the “Jerk Slice,” inspired by Stubbys’ Jamaican jerk chicken.

In addition to pizza, Sugar’s will feature deli-style sandwiches influenced by Walter’s Deli, the group’s sister restaurant on Nantucket. Sandwiches include “The Godfather,” layered with Genoa salami, capicola, pepperoni, provolone, and hot pepper relish, and “The New Yorker,” made with roasted turkey, pastrami, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing.

Dessert offerings will include soft serve, oversized chocolate chip cookies, and brownie sundaes.

The restaurant will seat approximately 20 guests indoors, with additional seasonal outdoor seating available in the courtyard plaza. Large accordion-style windows will open into the public space, and a community Polaroid wall is planned as part of the restaurant’s design.

Ariel Foxman, area vice president of brand and experience for Boston Seaport by WS Development, said the addition fills an everyday dining niche in the neighborhood.

“Great pizza places have a way of becoming part of the daily rhythm of a neighborhood, somewhere people return to again and again,” Foxman said. “Sugar’s adds that kind of energy here with something approachable, consistent, and built for everyday.”

Ahead of the official opening, Sugar’s will host a sneak preview during Seaport’s AAPI Give Back Day on May 13.

The restaurant will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with extended late-night weekend hours planned. Delivery service is expected to launch June 1 through major food delivery apps.
