BOSTON — Soccer fans will have the chance to watch the final matches of the FIFA World Cup outdoors this weekend as Lyrik Back Bay transforms its public plaza into a fan zone featuring a large LED screen, food, drinks and free evening movies.
The free, public watch parties will take place at Lyrik Back Bay’s Public Plaza, located at 400 Newbury St., with broadcasts of the tournament’s final two matches.
The weekend’s schedule includes the Third Place Playoff between France and England on Saturday, July 18, at 5 p.m., followed by the World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday, July 19, at 3 p.m.
Following each match, the outdoor festivities will continue with complimentary movie screenings on the plaza’s LED screen. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” will be shown Saturday evening, while “Mamma Mia!” is scheduled for Sunday night.
Visitors will also have access to a variety of dining and beverage options from Lyrik’s on-site restaurants and retailers throughout the day.
Rosa y Marigold will offer cocktails and light bites for guests enjoying the plaza and outdoor patio, while George Howell Coffee will serve coffee beverages. CHICHA San Chen will offer its award-winning teas, and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream will provide frozen treats. Pink Carrot will feature fresh bowls, while Avra Estiatorio will be open for dining. Guests can also celebrate after the matches with champagne and rooftop views at Bubble Bath.
The plaza is also home to Double Heart, Lyrik’s permanent public art installation, offering visitors a gathering place to enjoy the matches and the surrounding Back Bay neighborhood.
The watch parties are free and open to the public, providing an outdoor community viewing experience as the FIFA World Cup concludes with its championship weekend.
