NEWTON, MA–Jay Nuss Realty Group, LLC announced today that team member Liz Tavares, Esq., a Commercial Broker with the firm, has been installed as the President of the Rotary Club of Newton, 2023-2024, with her service beginning effective July 1.
She assumes this new role as the Rotary Club of Newton celebrates its 100th anniversary.
The Newton, MA resident has been a Rotarian since 2019 and lists a few key priorities for her term as president, including engaging and increasing membership, focusing on youth programs and a commitment to environmental stewardship in working with District 7910 Environmental Committee to make sustainable changes.
In addressing the Rotary membership, she said, “The concept of service above self is what really resonated with me when I joined,“ adding, “I’ve met and worked with some wonderful people during my time in Rotary – including Jay and Angela Nuss from the Braintree Rotary Club and Sue Peghiny, as then Membership Chair of the Newton Rotary Club, who I first connected with when I joined.” She said, “I can’t say enough about the Rotary. Rotarians works to make a positive impact on our community as well as globally, with over 1.4 million members worldwide. We recognize the importance of truthfulness, fairness, goodwill and fellowship.”
Tavares continued, “Rotary is also about building relationships and friendships. I and our President-Elect, Gayemarie Brown, of Wintam Place Consulting, look forward to creating opportunities for members to come together and get to know each other better and work to provide our members with a meaningful club engagement.”
During her time in Rotary, Liz was also part of an effort to arrange meal deliveries between area restaurants, local food pantries, senior citizen programs and local individual households, through a project, Nourishing Newton, that brought the Rotary Club of Newton together with the Charles River Regional Chamber to bring food relief to local needy families. Over a two year period, the effort delivered 10,000 meals to area families and helped restaurants stay in business during the Covid shutdowns.
Tavares has spent ten years in the commercial real estate field, the last five being with Jay Nuss Realty Group. She holds a law degree from Suffolk University, a Masters Degree from Boston University and her undergraduate degree from Fitchburg State University.
In her role at Jay Nuss Realty Group, she concentrates on commercial real estate largely in, but not limited to, the Boston Metro West region.
