BOSTONIonic Development Company announced that Michael Morizio has joined the firm as Project Manager, strengthening the company’s expanding higher education development practice across Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Morizio brings more than 15 years of experience managing large-scale construction and capital improvement projects within higher education environments. In his new role, he will help lead project oversight and development initiatives for colleges and universities throughout the region.

Prior to joining Ionic, Morizio spent a significant portion of his career at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he managed capital renewal efforts, infrastructure modernization projects, and campus improvement initiatives within active academic settings. He also served on the MIT Campus Sustainability Working Group, collaborating on construction and sustainability strategies aligned with the institution’s long-term environmental goals.

At Ionic, Morizio will support several ongoing projects at University of Rhode Island, including work involving the Boss Ice Arena, Carothers Library, and the Gender and Sexuality Center. Serving as Owner’s Project Manager, he will oversee construction administration, scheduling, budgeting, and project coordination tied to the university’s broader capital improvement and asset protection initiatives.

Morizio will also contribute to several major New England development projects currently underway by Ionic, including the Providence Art & Design Center, a planned 250,000-square-foot mixed-use development in Providence’s I-195 Redevelopment District, as well as Parcel D-4 in Boston Seaport.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Michael to Ionic,” said Kaitlin McCarthy. “His experience managing complex higher education projects at leading institutions makes him a strong addition to our team and a valuable asset to our clients as we continue to expand our higher education practice.”

Morizio said he looks forward to contributing to projects that support innovation, collaboration, and campus life.

“I’m excited to join Ionic at a time of tremendous growth in the firm’s higher education practice,” he said. “Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about creating spaces that support learning, collaboration, and innovation, and I look forward to helping deliver projects that make a lasting impact for students, faculty, and campus communities.”

The appointment comes as Ionic continues to expand its portfolio of institutional, mixed-use, and urban development projects throughout New England.
