BURLINGTON, MA– Erland Construction has been among the recipients of the 29th annual Excellence in Construction Awards given by the Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC MA).
Erland was recognized with a Merit Award, representing the pinnacle of achievements, for its outstanding work on the Sunrise of Newton project. The award is presented to a member company that has partnered with other ABC MA members to create a jobsite environment that promotes cooperative efforts and project success and recognizes the overall excellence in project execution, craftsmanship, safety, innovative elements and challenges, and client satisfaction.
Erland teamed with PWC Companies and JSA Inc. to construct the 4-story assisted living and memory care community with underground parking for Sunrise Senior Living on the site of a former car dealership. The existing story-and-a-half commercial building was demolished, and the site was completely cleared prior to construction. The new assisted living and memory care community is 101,284sf and offers 85 suites serving up to 108 residents. Each room is designed with custom finishes for a “homelike” environment. Some suites also include access to a balcony. Additionally, the new community features several amenities including a bistro, outdoor park/common area, and the option to have a pet.
This was Erland’s third out-of-the-ground project in addition to two property refreshes with Sunrise Senior Living. “We’re proud of what we’ve built for Sunrise Senior Living and the Newton community,” said Eric Greene, Vice President and Residential Group Manager, Erland Construction. “Partnering with Sunrise Senior Living, PWC Companies, JSA Inc., and each of our dedicated subcontractors was a truly rewarding experience that led to an incredibly successful project. We are honored to have our efforts commended by ABC MA and to have been part of such a strong team effort.”
This year, over 250 ABC members gathered at the Boston Marriot Burlington Hotel to recognize and celebrate the very best construction projects its companies have to offer. This year’s applicant pool was particularly competitive, with each winner selected for the high standards of craftsmanship, safety and quality delivered by talented merit shop workers using the efficient merit shop approach. Erland Construction took home the Merit Award, representing work that stands above the rest, for its work on the Sunrise of Newton project.
“We are proud to recognize the outstanding work of our member contractors through the ABC Excellence in Construction Awards. The winning contractors maintained a constant focus on meeting their clients’ needs and set a high bar for craftsmanship, quality and safety,” said Chapter President Greg Beeman.
Erland was also recognized for their ongoing efforts in the development of an exemplary safety program. ABC MA presented the company’s Safety Director, Clarence Reid, with a 2021 Diamond Level S.T.E.P. Award. Diamond Level is the highest recognition offered. In order to qualify for this award, Erland’s safety data had to meet rigorous requirements including a Total Recordable Incident Rate falling at least 50% below the NAICS code average.
