Somerville, MA— CTA Construction Managers has been awarded a contract to renovate Somerville’s historic West Branch Library. The 100-year-old library is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is classified as a Carnegie Library.
“We are pleased to have been selected as the construction managers on this exciting renovation that will update and expand the library so that it can better meet the needs of the community,” said Jeffery Hazelwood, principal at CTA Construction. “The West Branch Library is a historic institution in Somerville, and these new improvements and additions will allow the facility to be a more accessible and inviting space for visitors of all ages while maintaining its unique historic character.”
During the West Branch Library renovation, CTA Construction will oversee the updating and modernization of the historic building to allow for better access and enhanced operations and programming. The updated and renovated library will feature new multipurpose and flex spaces to host library-sponsored programs, public meetings and other events, designated quiet reading and study areas, and an indoor/outdoor book drop.
In addition, the renovated library will include modernized mechanical, electrical, plumbing and computer networking systems, and a new elevator. Improved landscaping throughout the site will create ample green and open space. A new accessible entryway will also provide easier and more convenient access.
These updates will allow the West Branch Library to increase programming opportunities for individuals of all ages and create a more visitor-friendly space.
