BOSTON- Corderman & Company, a Boston-based construction management firm, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in September.
The firm was founded in 2002 by David M. Corderman, Jr. and began with a goal to bring back a client service-oriented approach that was distinctly missing from the construction industry. Setting up the business in a converted office loft in South Boston, Corderman & Company set forth on an extraordinary journey to provide the highest quality pre-construction and construction management services. Equally important, David was committed and personally engaged in enriching the lives of both his employees and their families, as well as the broader Boston community, by the creation of career development opportunities and an awareness to the firm’s philanthropic responsibility.
“The year 2002 represented the culmination of a childhood dream, and the beginning of something completely intangible and fragile, that would ultimately be defined by a story of exceptional people committed to excellence, partnerships, integrity, friendship and family, and an altruistic belief in social stewardship,” reflects David Corderman. “My dad instilled the values of benevolence and gratitude, and those lessons became the basis for raising my children and building a successful business.”
Twenty years later, just a few blocks from where the firm was established, Corderman & Company continues to build on its core mission to work in partnership with clients, the design and real estate community, and trade partners to consistently deliver predictable construction experiences, to champion employee careers and interests, and to give back to vital causes. The decision for Corderman’s office to remain in the same neighborhood echoes the company’s steadfast investment in South Boston.
Corderman & Company’s success can be directly attributed to the organization’s employees, a dedicated team comprised of diverse backgrounds, races, abilities, educations, ethnicities, ages, and other qualities that not only make the firm unique, but elevate Corderman’s strengths in problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork. Today, Corderman is proud to have a talented team of 87 cross-functional professionals who have created a remarkable portfolio that spans across many sectors, including corporate, financial services, academic, healthcare, hospitality, legal, banking, retail, and building repositioning.
Beyond construction management, social awareness is profoundly intertwined in the Corderman & Company mission. Most recently recognized as a top charitable contributor in Massachusetts, Corderman & Company supports philanthropic causes significant to employees, including the Tynan Elementary School in South Boston and the Usher Syndrome Society. As the founding sponsor of the Usher Syndrome Society, Corderman & Company supports the non-profit in its mission to raise awareness and critical capital to accelerate the discovery of treatments and cures for Usher syndrome, a genetic cause of combined deafness and blindness. Two of David Corderman’s four kids are living with Usher syndrome.
As Corderman & Company begins to imagine the next twenty years, balancing organic growth with social responsibility are paramount to the true success of this distinctive company. David Corderman once envisioned an organization that opens doors to endless possibilities. Today, David is humbled by the City of Boston’s acknowledgement and embrace of the firm, and the awareness of tomorrow’s invitation to continue building on Corderman & Company’s mission for years to come.
