NORTH READING, MA — Columbia, the North Reading-based construction management firm, has promoted Ryan Varney to General Superintendent, a position focused on strengthening coordination between the company’s field and office teams while supporting growth and mentorship for field personnel.
Varney has been with Columbia for 10 years and has led a range of fast-track and large-scale construction projects for clients across multiple sectors. Most recently, he managed construction of a 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility for a life sciences company.
In his new role, Varney will work with Director of Field Operations Chris Hurley and Vice Presidents/General Superintendents Josh Blake and Russ Parady.

Gallant said Varney’s experience leading large teams has contributed to the success of projects such as the recent life sciences manufacturing facility.
“Since joining Columbia a decade ago, he has consistently set a high standard for professionalism, project execution, and delivering outstanding results,” Gallant said.
Varney was also recently recognized with the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts Member Distinction Award for Safety Leadership, reflecting his work in maintaining safety on construction jobsites.
“Ryan’s ability to provide strong leadership and guide large teams has been instrumental to the success of projects like these,” Gallant said.
