BOSTON– Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB), an architecture, interior design, and planning firm, announced that it has hired Matthew Michel as an Associate Principal in the firm’s East Coast office, based in Boston.

Michel joins SCB’s Science and Technology leadership team, further strengthening the firm’s growing practice in the sector, specifically life sciences in the Boston region.

Michel brings nearly 35 years of design experience to SCB, along with a robust portfolio of completed projects in Boston and the greater Northeast, demonstrating his ability to get projects through approvals and delivered to market. Michel was previously a partner at SGA, where he helped grow the firm from 20 to 130 people over the last 22 years – providing great insight, rigor, and dedication to delivering on its clients’ goals.

“Matthew’s expertise and vast experience in the architecture industry make him a valuable addition to our team. The Boston office looks forward to his perspective and leadership as we drive our dynamic life sciences practice in Boston,” said Clara Wineberg, Principal, and leader of SCB’s East Coast practice. “SCB always looks to bring on experts in their respective fields and invest in those voices for the firm to continue designing the same successful, high-level work it has been doing for nearly a century. Matthew undoubtedly brings tremendous experience to the Boston office.”

“From day one it has been clear to me that SCB does things differently. The firm has a great depth of talent and resources to design and implement high-performance projects for their clients through a diligent and collaborative process rooted in years of expertise,” said Michel. “I look forward to working with this team to continue the firm’s legacy of design and client service here in Boston.”

SCB brings a unique point of view to each of its projects, utilizing innovative design solutions with a national perspective to create high-performance spaces for end users. Since opening its Boston office in 2021, the firm has already seen incredible growth due to its novel take on complex projects across the residential, commercial office, mixed-use, institutional, and interiors sectors. SCB has active projects up and down the East Coast, from Miami and Washington D.C. to Philadelphia and Boston.
