BOSTON–The Executive Vice President of Business Operations at Breakthrough Properties, a Tishman Speyer and Bellco Capital JV, Susie Harborth has been at the forefront of real estate innovation by developing a coworking platform for life science companies over the past decade.

As a co-founder and COO of BioLabs, an affiliate innovation platform of coworking lab spaces and services for startups, and an Advisor to Labcentral in Cambridge, MA (Kendall Sq), Harborth lowered the high barriers to entry for biotech startups, allowing female founders to start new companies. Harborth is a dynamo in the industry and only one of a few women who can bridge real estate and life sciences, making an impact for human health, especially during the current pandemic.

On Feb. 17, Boston Real Estate Times will honor Harborth as one of the 10 Outstanding Women leaders in commercial real estate in a virtual award ceremony. To register for the event, please click here.

Harborth is the Executive Vice President, Business Operations at Breakthrough Properties, leading the firm’s global operations platform and creating elevated user experiences for their tenants.

She has extensive experience with company launch and expansion, facility operations, workplace services and strategy and has spent the last 20 years in strategy and operational roles (CFO/COO) at early-stage life science companies. She has worked on developing coworking spaces in Cambridge/Boston, New York, San Diego, Los Angeles, and other emerging clusters; and continues to advise on innovation strategy in the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions.

Companies, academic institutions or research hospitals seeking a experienced life science real estate partner should reach out to Harborth and her team at Breakthrough. In the Boston area, Breakthrough currently has two projects: The 105 by Breakthrough in South Boston (which was fully leased to CRISPR Therapeutics in July 2020), and the Harvard Enterprise Research Campus in Allston, MA.

Harborth is the founding CFO at Mission BioCapital (MBC), an early-stage life science venture capital firm, and a thought leader and someone who deserves recognition for all her efforts to support an inclusive and diverse tenant base. She is a sought-after speaker and mentor, and an inspiration to women in all three verticals of real estate, life science and venture capital.

Prior to her work at MBC and BioLabs, Harborth was CFO at GnuBIO, a next-generation sequencing spin-out from Harvard; VP Operations at Cequent Pharmaceuticals; and part of the founding team at Boston Heart Diagnostics (acquired by Eurofins). She holds a Masters in Biology from Harvard University, with graduate research conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital; and a Bachelors in Business Administration from CSU, Long Beach.

Breakthrough Properties is a life science real estate development company that leverages cross-sector collaboration to deliver environments that foster innovation and scientific breakthroughs. Breakthrough combines Tishman Speyer’s decades of global real estate development experience with Bellco Capital’s industry-making biotechnology entrepreneurship, to reimagine environments where companies can create life-changing therapies for patients.
