New all-day market from the team behind Steel & Rye features fresh food, specialty coffee, local products, and inviting indoor and outdoor spaces designed to become a neighborhood hub.
MILTON, Mass. — A new neighborhood market is set to open its doors Wednesday in Milton Village, offering residents a destination for fresh food, specialty coffee, prepared meals, local products, and community gathering in a restored historic building.
Two Pence Market, located at 2 Eliot St., officially opens July 29, bringing a new all-day concept from the team behind Steel & Rye, the popular Milton restaurant, bakery, and café that has served the community since 2012.
The market occupies a former bank building that has been thoughtfully renovated while preserving many of its historic architectural features. Among its most distinctive elements is the original bank vault, which has been repurposed as a wine retail space, blending the building’s history with a contemporary neighborhood market.
The project is led by restaurateur Dan Kerrigan and co-owner and Culinary Director Brendan Joy, the team behind Steel & Rye, in partnership with local developer JD Wild of The ELEVATED Companies.
Designed to be more than a traditional grocery store or café, Two Pence Market combines freshly prepared food, specialty groceries, locally sourced produce, coffee, wine, and retail offerings in a setting intended to serve both quick visits and longer gatherings. Guests can stop in for breakfast, pick up prepared meals for dinner, browse pantry staples, or meet friends over coffee in indoor seating areas or on two outdoor patios.
Executive Chef Alison Hearn oversees the market’s culinary program alongside Joy, offering breakfast sandwiches, freshly baked bagels, smoothies, salads, grain bowls, prepared meals, and other seasonal selections built around the same ingredient-focused philosophy that has defined Steel & Rye.
The market also emphasizes partnerships with local farms, including Allandale Farm for seasonal vegetables and Ward’s Berry Farm for fresh fruit. In addition, visitors can enjoy Toscanini’s Ice Cream, featuring rotating flavors, seasonal sorbets, hand-spun milkshakes, and a walk-up service window.
“Opening Two Pence Market is an incredibly meaningful moment for our team,” said Dan Kerrigan. “Milton has been home to Steel & Rye for close to fifteen years, and we wanted to create a place that feels connected to the community we’ve been so fortunate to be part of. Two Pence is designed to be a place people can return to often, whether they’re grabbing a coffee or smoothie on the way to work, picking up dinner for their family, discovering something new, or simply spending time with loved ones. Our hope is that it becomes part of the everyday rhythm of Milton.”
The market features a self-serve specialty coffee station, curated specialty grocery items, seasonal produce, wine, and prepared foods, with spaces designed to encourage neighbors to gather throughout the day. Indoor seating includes a fireplace, while outdoor patios—including one covered by a pergola—provide additional places for guests to relax.
The opening represents the latest venture for the Steel & Rye team, whose portfolio also includes Prairie Fire in Brookline. Working with The ELEVATED Companies, the project transforms one of Milton Village’s most recognizable buildings into what the owners envision as a modern neighborhood marketplace rooted in local history and everyday community life.
