BRAINTREE, MA — The Peabody Companies is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026, marking half a century of innovation and community impact in affordable housing. The milestone will be highlighted throughout the year with a “50 Acts of Kindness” campaign.
Founded in 1976 by the late Edward A. Fish, widely regarded as a pioneer in the affordable housing sector, The Peabody Companies has grown into a full-service, award-winning real estate and management organization. Today, the firm oversees more than 16,300 housing units across New England, with additional properties in New Jersey and Florida.
“As we celebrate 50 years, we are not only honoring our history, but also the communities and residents who have been at the heart of our mission from the very beginning,” said Melissa Fish-Crane, CEO of The Peabody Companies. “With ‘50 Acts of Kindness,’ we are shining a light on the principles that have guided us since 1976 – compassion, service, and community.”
The year-long campaign will see Peabody staff engage in community service projects, charitable giving, and resident-focused initiatives. Many efforts will focus on supporting veterans, women, children, and families, reflecting the company’s belief that strong families build strong communities.
The Peabody Companies’ leadership in the sector is widely recognized. It has appeared on the NAHMA Affordable 100 List every year for over a decade and has received accolades from the National Apartment Association, the Massachusetts Apartment Association, and the Institute of Real Estate Management for its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
The firm’s subsidiaries—Peabody Properties, Peabody Resident Services, Peabody Supportive Housing, Peabody Real Estate, and Peabody Miami—will all participate in the “50 Acts of Kindness” campaign, carrying forward Edward Fish’s legacy of service and dedication to affordable housing.
Karen Fish-Will, who served as CEO from 2013 to 2022 and now chairs the company’s board, emphasized that the campaign reflects The Peabody Companies’ enduring mission to put the home in housing, while highlighting the firm’s ongoing commitment to creating stronger, more resilient communities.
