Boston, MA – With over 100 years of experience in the movie industry, the trailblazers at Kerasotes are opening the first ShowPlace ICON in Massachusetts this Winter.

From its technology to its amenities, ShowPlace ICON at Seaport will transform movie going in Boston with its luxury, state-of-the-art experience. The theatre will be located in the Seaport, where 23 acres of waterfront land are being developed with a carefully selected mix of residential, hotel, office, retail, entertainment, civic and cultural uses, and public open space.

Specifically, it will call One Seaport, the largest mixed-used development in the city in 30 years, its home. Here, it will neighbor such brands as Kings Dining & Entertainment, Caffé Nero, Mr. Sid, sweetgreen, and Tuscan Kitchen & Italian Market, and it will be positioned below VIA’s 478 modern apartment homes. ShowPlace ICON at Seaport is located at 60 Seaport Boulevard Suite, 315, Boston, MA.

A 108-YEAR HISTORY

A family owned business, Kerasotes originated in 1909 as a nickelodeon in Illinois before evolving into the fifth largest national circuit with over 100 locations. In 2009, brothers and third generation owners Tony and Dean Kerasotes had a vision to create a boutique collection of luxury theatres, one that reimagines the art of movie-going and gives the utmost care and attention to both technology and amenities – the ShowPlace ICON brand was born. In 2010, the brothers sold all but three of their theatres to focus exclusively on ShowPlace ICON.

Upon opening, ShowPlace ICON at Seaport will join ShowPlace ICON at Roosevelt Collection in Chicago and ShowPlace ICON at the West End in Minneapolis. Five additional locations are planned for The Village at San Antonio Center in Mountain View, CA, Westfield’s Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara, CA, The Boro in Tyson’s Corner, VA, Five Lagunas in Laguna Hills, California, and The Yards in Washington, D.C.

“With ShowPlace ICON at Seaport, we plan on doing nothing short of changing the way Bostonians see movies. Our location in the Seaport perfectly aligns with our desire to bring our unparalleled cinema experience to the most exciting neighborhoods in the country,” says Tony Kerasotes, CEO of ShowPlace ICON.

60 Seaport Boulevard

“ShowPlace ICON is more than a movie theatre, it is an immersive experience. Its state-of-the-art technology, dining, cocktail program, and views of the city will make this a remarkable draw and one of the greatest places to see a movie in the country.   We are eagerly anticipating this opening and are excited to have ICON as an anchor to the Seaport,” says Todd Norley, Vice President of Leasing at WS Development.

Relatively intimate in size, ShowPlace ICON at Seaport spans 44,000 square feet, boasting 10 auditoriums and seating 855 guests in total.  Auditoriums range from the 131-seat ICON-X premium large format room to a 63-seat auditorium, which gives moviegoers the feeling of being in their own private screening room.

Following an initial visioning study led by Elkus Manfredi Architects, STK Design executed ShowPlace ICON at Seaport’s décor. The location boasts floor-to-ceiling windows with jaw-dropping views of Fort Point Channel and Seaport Boulevard.  Interiors feature clean lines and curved forms; leather and patent leather tufted seating, and lace accents on the walls. A beaded rotunda makes for a striking aerial focal point.

Serving as the ultimate date night destination and creating a sophisticated movie experience, ShowPlace ICON at Seaport offers reserved seating only, ensuring that moviegoers always have just the right seat. By evening, ShowPlace ICON at Seaport protects the joy of an adult night out with its 18+ policy for shows at 6pm and after. When accompanied by a parent, guests under 18 years of age are welcome for matinee G and PG shows before 6pm; infants (ages 2 & under) are discouraged and are charged full adult price.

Accommodating 150+, The Lobby Lounge seats guests 18 and over who can choose from bar seats to cozy banquettes.  The Lobby Lounge menu, prepared by an in-house chef, focuses on fresh, crave-able bites that are available before, during and after shows in the afternoon and evening. Transforming standard movie fare, there are upscale lounge snacks and entrees, as well as all of the essential movie concessions. Available to all guests, the lounge’s Take 2 Menu offers a selection of fresh, house-made, small-plate items specially selected to take into the theatre.  The Lobby Lounge will emphasize locally sourced products, as ShowPlace ICON forges partnerships with sustainable farmers and artisans whenever possible. Specialty cocktails will play off of the kitchen’s creativity and give a nod to Boston culture.
