BOSTON—SGA, a national firm whose work spans architecture, interior design, planning, branded environments, and virtual design and construction, today announced that the company has named five new principals and promoted seven team members to the position of director.

SGA’s Matthew Fickett, Joe Mamayek, Brooks Slocum, Brian Slozak and Eric Svahn have been promoted to Principals.
SGA’s Scott Barnholt, David Enriquez, Marc Gabriel and Walker Shanklin have been promoted to Directors, Architecture. Caroline Bergin and Amanda Vicari have been named Directors, Interior Design. Jessica Randolph is now Director, Project Management.

Matthew Fickett, AIA, CPHC, LEED®
Principal
Matthew, who leads SGA’s science and technology practice, is deeply involved with SGA teams in laboratory fit-out architecture and life sciences core and shell projects. As one of the leading laboratory architects in the industry, Matthew is in charge of orchestrating the rapid growth of SGA’s laboratory architecture expertise. His skillset extends beyond lab planning and includes leading project delivery in the true essence of SGA. As a member of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories, Matthew ensures that facility designs address not only current but also future, needs. The labs that stand the test of time are highly adaptable and sustainable, allowing for rapid changes in science and promoting health and energy-efficiency. He also works closely with clients to identify the features of a building that enhance aesthetics and employee engagement. In Matthew’s view, function and beauty are not mutually exclusive. Matthew is certified Passive House designer. He holds Bachelor of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Joe Mamayek, AIA, LEED® AP
Principal
Throughout his 30+year career, Joe has approached architecture as a means to explore new frontiers, provide environmental stewardship, and foster connections with communities. Life science, his current focus, is closely linked to these objectives. He establishes not only the design vision for commissions, but also collaborates on their execution. His experience encompasses a variety of building types, including research, hospitality, healthcare, residential, corporate, and mixed-use. During his career, he has led many award-winning projects honored by such organizations as the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Preservation Massachusetts. Joe earned a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Minnesota.
Brooks Slocum, AIA
Principal
Brooks has played a pivotal role in the growth of SGA’s Manhattan office, where he leads both the architecture and interior design practices. His responsibilities are all inclusive: He oversees all New York-based projects and several commissions around the country, encompassing new construction, adaptive reuse, corporate interiors, and master planning. An advanced REVIT user, he is a strong advocate of fully integrated BIM project delivery.
Before joining SGA in 2015, Brooks ran his own studio for 10 years, where he focused on commercial, institutional, and residential projects. He has developed expertise in a number of markets, including science and technology, healthcare, cultural institutions, and courthouses. Brooks received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California.
Brian Slozak, RA
Principal
Brian is a creative and talented professional who balances multiple commissions, including complex urban core and shell projects and large-scale master planning. Although he is most active in conceptual stages, he has strong technical knowledge that allows him to follow the design through to the construction detail level. He also has a strong command of local zoning ordinances that allows him to effectively navigate the public approval process. Brian received his Master of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
Eric Svahn, AIA, NCARB
Principal
Eric concentrates on the commercial and life sciences markets. Although he is involved in every project phase, his specialty is construction documentation and construction administration. He is committed to maintaining design excellence through the construction process to reality, working with owners and consultants to solve the most challenging problems, and fostering close-knit relationships with all project team members. Each effort is focused on adding value to the completed project. Eric received his Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University.

Scott Barnholt, AIA
Director, Architecture
Scott has a multidisciplinary background that encompasses both architecture and urban planning. At SGA, Scott focuses on design and documentation for commercial, mixed-use, and life sciences commissions. He thrives on creative thinking and problem-solving, especially in relation to the development of concepts that work within a site’s constraints.
A registered architect, Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in environmental design from the University of Colorado, and a Master of Architecture and a Master of Urban Planning from Columbia University.
David Enriquez, LEED® AP BD+C
Director, Architecture
David brings 20 years of experience in several different markets to his role at SGA, where he provides creative direction for commercial and higher-education commissions. He enjoys the diversity of his projects, which encompass master plans, university residences, and corporate offices. A key focal point of his work is sustainability, which David views as paramount. David earned a Master of Architecture from Syracuse University.
Marc Gabriel, LEED® AP BD+C, NCARB
Director, Architecture
Marc is widely recognized for his expertise in large, complex projects and his ability to guide stakeholders through any challenges that arise. A registered architect in Massachusetts and New York, Marc has been in the building industry for 31 years. He specializes in high-rise, life sciences, and multifamily structures. He welcomes opportunities to take a preliminary design and refine it to ensure a project’s success, applying effective new technologies whenever possible. He received his Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Walker Shanklin, AIA
Director, Architecture
As one of SGA’s leading designers, Walker develops conceptual solutions for buildings that influence the surrounding context in a positive way. His wide-ranging responsibilities include advising clients and overseeing every stage of projects from initial planning to construction. His work encompasses commercial, mixed-use, life sciences, corporate interiors, adaptive re-use, and master-planning commissions. He has also supported SGA’s use of progressive technologies in the building industry, such as BIM, REVIT, and VDC. Walker received a Bachelor of Science in architecture and a Master of Architecture from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
Caroline Bergin, IIDA, NCIDQ, WELL® AP
Director, Interior Design
Caroline leads the interior design practice at SGA’s growing New York City studio, where her focus is on corporate interiors, multifamily projects, and state-of-the-art technology and life-sciences facilities. With each commission, she seeks to create inspired design strategies tailored to the end-user. Caroline’s strength in elevating a holistic approach stems from her background of diverse work experiences at multidisciplinary firms, including Perkins Eastman. Her strategies are also informed by knowledge she gains at industry events that focus on the evolution and future of design and technology. Caroline received a Bachelor of Science from the School of Architecture and Design at Virginia Tech.
Amanda Vicari, NCIDQ
Director, Interior Design
Amanda approaches design through deep exploration of client culture. Her portfolio includes corporate interiors, lobbies and common areas, industrial maker spaces, higher education, and new mixed-use facilities. But the projects all share an emphasis on technology: She applies the latest advances to create efficiencies in delivery methods, and strives to help others find rewarding positions in the design industry. Amanda received her Bachelor of Science in interior design from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Jessica Randolph, AIA, NCARB
Director, Project Management
As an experienced project manager who specializes in production, Jessica plays an important dual role: ensuring that each project is buildable and that the design integrity remains intact throughout construction. At SGA, she has worked on several commercial projects that encompass renovations as well as core and shell office buildings. Over the course of her 20-year career, she’s completed a vast array of projects across the higher-education, mixed-use, hospitality, and senior-living markets. Jessica is a registered architect in Massachusetts, Florida, and Maine. She received an MBA, a Master of Architecture, and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from Norwich University in Vermont.
