CAMBRIDGE, MA— Schochet and Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL) have announced the launch of the R3 (Right Care, Right Place, Right Time) program at Fresh Pond Apartments in Cambridge, marking a milestone as the first multi-family affordable housing community to offer the award-winning healthy aging initiative.
The Fresh Pond Apartments, home to over 500 residents, including 230 older adults, will now benefit from the R3 program’s comprehensive, on-site wellness services aimed at promoting independence, improving health outcomes, and reducing healthcare costs. Services include access to a nurse, health screenings, wellness education, exercise classes, and benefits assistance.
“Enabling senior residents to remain in their homes and communities is central to our mission,” said Richard Henken, President and CEO of Schochet. “We’re proud to bring this innovative model to Fresh Pond and continue enhancing quality of life for our residents.”
The R3 model integrates a dedicated wellness team—including a Nurse Care Manager and Fitness Specialist—into the housing environment. Staff work closely with residents to identify health barriers and connect them with personalized care and support.
Stephanie Small, Executive Director of R3, added, “By expanding R3 to a multi-family property, we’re reaching even more older adults with the tools they need to live independently and age with dignity.”
This marks the third Schochet property to implement R3, following successful programs at Riverside Towers in Medford and Hamilton Wade/Douglas House in Brockton. Developed by Hebrew SeniorLife, R3 has received multiple national awards for innovation in senior care.
The Fresh Pond rollout reflects growing efforts to integrate health and housing, offering a promising model for aging in place in affordable housing settings.
