LEXINGTON, MA— Lexington voters have approved a sweeping $659 million plan to rebuild and modernize Lexington High School, according to reporting from WCVB Channel 5 and Boston.com.

The measure passed by a vote of 5,283 to 3,276, clearing the way for one of the most expensive public-school construction projects in Massachusetts history. The plan calls for a full replacement of the 70-year-old Lexington High School, as well as renovations and additions to the district’s field house and Central Administration Offices.

According to WCVB’s reporting, the new school will be built on the same site as the existing high school. Once the new building opens, the current structure will be demolished and replaced with new athletic fields.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with the new school scheduled to open for the 2029–2030 school year.

Town officials say the project will address long-standing infrastructure challenges, modernize learning spaces, and meet the needs of a growing student population. The vote marks a major milestone in Lexington’s multi-year effort to invest in upgraded school facilities.
