Newton, MA – Barkan Compliance Solutions (BCS), an affiliate of Barkan Management Company and a provider of regulatory compliance services to developers, owners, and managers of affordable housing, has been engaged by the Housing Corporation of Arlington (HCA) to provide recertification and compliance services for 32 LIHTC and HOME units in the Capitol Square Apartment Complex.
As part of the recertification process, BCS will conduct interviews with residents, obtain third party verifications, perform income and asset calculations, and ensure that applicants and residents qualify based on income guidelines.
The mission of the Housing Corporation of Arlington is to “provide and advocate for decent, affordable housing for low- and moderate- income families and individuals in Arlington and surrounding communities, while promoting social and economic diversity.” The Housing Corporation operates affordable apartments throughout Arlington.
The Capitol Square Apartments Project was the first Arlington property to receive low-income housing tax credits from the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). Originally constructed in 1912, these three apartment buildings on adjacent parcels are a few blocks from the Capitol Theatre in East Arlington. Significant renovations have been made to all 32 existing apartments (a mix of studios and one/two-bedroom units), common areas, and exteriors. The units are affordable in perpetuity serving low-income households.
“We are pleased to be working with the Housing Corporation of Arlington in its mission to provide decent and affordable housing to qualifying individuals and families,” said Cynthia Howe, Vice President of Barkan Management Company. “We are proud of our continued growth in this sector and look forward to a successful working relationship with HCA’s staff and Board of Directors.
