HAVERHILL, Mass. — The Trustees of the Haverhill Public Library have selected Erland Construction to lead a comprehensive renovation of the library’s historic facility, a project designed to improve accessibility, modernize building systems, and preserve one of the city’s most important civic institutions for future generations.
Erland will partner with CHA Solutions, OverUnder, and West Work on the renovation, which will focus on enhancing the library’s functionality, sustainability, and long-term performance while allowing the facility to remain operational throughout construction.
The project includes a complete replacement of the building’s exterior envelope, featuring new cladding, windows, doors, and roofing systems designed to improve energy efficiency and extend the life of the historic structure. Interior renovations will include upgrades to the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, providing greater operational efficiency and flexibility to meet the evolving needs of library staff and patrons.
Site improvements will also enhance accessibility and the visitor experience through repairs and upgrades to ADA access points, landscaping, and surrounding hardscape elements.
Because the library will remain open during construction, Erland will implement a carefully phased construction plan designed to minimize disruptions while maintaining a safe environment for employees, visitors, and the public.
