BROOKLINE, Mass. — The Hamilton Company has completed major renovations to the first floor of 156 Lawton Street in Brookline, providing a newly improved home for Bay Cove Academy, a therapeutic day school operated by Justice Resource Institute (JRI).
The renovated space encompasses approximately 12,000 square feet. Bay Cove Academy received its certificate of occupancy in September and is scheduled to reopen at the Brookline location on October 13.
“We are excited to complete the renovations for JRI,” said Jameson Brown, Chairman and CEO of The Hamilton Company. “We are thrilled that the improvements made to their space will help them maintain an important presence in the Brookline community.”
The renovations were undertaken after JRI temporarily relocated its operations in December 2025 while The Hamilton Company completed improvements to the building.
Supporting Students and Families
Founded in 1973, Justice Resource Institute has grown into a network of more than 100 human services programs with approximately 2,500 employees. The organization provides trauma-informed care and support to children, families and individuals across a range of communities and needs.
Bay Cove Academy serves adolescents whose educational and social needs may extend beyond what traditional public and private school settings can accommodate. The therapeutic day school provides a highly structured learning environment designed to support students academically while also addressing their social and emotional development.
The return to the renovated Brookline facility marks an important milestone for the school community.
“We are grateful to The Hamilton Company and everyone who helped create a renewed space where our students can feel safe, supported, and ready to learn,” said Lindsay Savageau, Vice President of Educational Services at JRI.
“Returning to Bay Cove Academy’s Brookline home is an exciting milestone for our entire school community, and this thoughtfully renovated environment will help our students build on their strengths and pursue their educational, social, and vocational goals,” she added.
A Continued Presence in Brookline
The Hamilton Company said the renovations are intended to provide JRI and Bay Cove Academy with an improved environment as they continue their work serving students and families.
“We were honored to complete these important renovations for the JRI,” said Carol Rash, The Hamilton Company’s Director of Commercial Property & Asset Management. “These improvements will provide stability and peace of mind as they continue to provide vital services to the marginalized residents of Brookline and beyond.”
With the completion of the project, Bay Cove Academy will resume operations at its Lawton Street location on October 13, bringing students and staff back to a renovated facility after nearly a year of temporary relocation.
The project also underscores the role of partnerships between property owners and community-based organizations in maintaining facilities that support education, behavioral health and human services in local communities.
