BOSTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host a public informational meeting on April 2 to update residents on cleanup progress and future plans at the Nuclear Metals Superfund Site.

The meeting will take place from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Concord Town House. Community members will also have the option to attend virtually via an online platform.

EPA officials will provide updates on ongoing remediation efforts, outline upcoming work at the site, and answer questions from residents. The meeting is part of the agency’s continued outreach to keep the public informed about environmental and health-related developments tied to the site.

History of the Site

The Nuclear Metals site, also known as the Starmet Corporation site, spans approximately 46 acres in Concord. From 1958 to 1985, the facility produced depleted uranium products, primarily for armor-piercing ammunition, along with metal powders used in medical applications, photocopiers, and specialty aerospace components such as beryllium tubing.

During its years of operation, waste materials were discharged into an unlined holding basin, leading to contamination of soil and groundwater with hazardous substances. The site was later designated for federal cleanup under the Superfund program.

Ongoing Cleanup Efforts

Federal and state agencies have taken multiple actions over the years to address immediate risks to public health and the environment. Long-term remediation efforts remain underway to fully contain and mitigate contamination at the site.

The EPA said the April 2 meeting will provide the latest updates on these efforts and offer residents an opportunity to engage directly with project officials.

Community Participation

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting either in person or online to learn more about the status of the cleanup and future plans.

Additional information about the site and ongoing remediation activities is available through the EPA’s Superfund program website.
