WORCESTER, MA– Callahan Construction Managers celebrated a significant milestone at the Poet Hill Residences in Worcester with a topping-off ceremony, marking the completion of the building’s structural framework. Despite a challenging winter season, the 210-unit market-rate housing development remains on schedule.

Located on Hemans Street in the Poet Hill neighborhood, the five-story residential complex, developed by SMC Management Corporation, is set atop a double-podium parking garage on a five-acre site. The project, designed by Maugel DeStefano Architects, utilizes the site’s natural slope to incorporate a residential courtyard atop the parking deck, aligning with street level.

Callahan Construction has navigated difficult site conditions and the harshest winter in years, managing tasks from pouring concrete slabs to erecting steel and wood framing, as well as installing siding and windows. Work on interior systems remained uninterrupted, allowing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) installations and city inspections to continue without delay.

“Thanks to a strong partnership with city leaders and SMC, we’ve been able to forge ahead and reach this important milestone, bringing us one step closer to unveiling an exciting multi-family development in Worcester,” said Stephen Callahan Jr., Vice President of Business Development at Callahan. “Our experience building multi-family communities across Worcester County has prepared us for this unique project, and we’re excited to see it come to life.”

The Poet Hill Residences is one of several multi-family projects Callahan is currently managing. The company also marked another topping-off ceremony this week at Weiss Farm in Stoneham, a 259-unit LEED Silver-rated development.
