BOSTON — Vicinity Energy, an operator of district energy systems, has been awarded the North America Utilities Deal of the Year Award by Proximo Infra at the 2025 Proximo Congress, held at the Four Seasons in Nashville.
The award celebrates Vicinity’s significant contributions to clean energy infrastructure and was presented in recognition of its ongoing efforts to decarbonize urban energy systems, particularly through recent advancements at its Kendall Square facility in Cambridge. The company’s installation of an electric-powered boiler to produce eSteam—a renewable thermal energy product—has marked a major step forward in regional emissions reduction, already attracting early adopters such as Emerson College and biotech developer IQHQ.
With a 90-year legacy of delivering resilient and sustainable energy to Boston, Vicinity currently operates a 29-mile network of underground steam pipes serving over 240 buildings. Its system helps the Greater Boston area avoid more than 97,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.
Vicinity accepted the award alongside Antin Infrastructure Partners, reflecting their shared vision for building a cleaner energy future. The Proximo Congress brought together top financial, legal, and corporate leaders to explore emerging trends in U.S. energy and infrastructure finance.
“This recognition is a testament to the impact of our work and the momentum behind sustainable energy solutions,” said company representatives following the ceremony.
Headquartered in Boston, Vicinity Energy continues to lead the transformation of urban energy infrastructure across the United States.
