BURLINGTON, MA— National Development today announced that State Street Corporation, one of the nation’s leading financial services firms, has renewed and expanded its lease at The District Burlington, marking one of the largest office transactions in Massachusetts this year.
The agreement includes the renewal of 147,000 square feet and an additional 15,000 square feet of expansion, totaling 162,000 square feet. The new lease extends through May 31, 2037, reinforcing State Street’s long-term commitment to The District as a key hub within its Greater Boston workplace network.
State Street joins a growing roster of major tenants deepening their roots at The District. Earlier this year, National Development announced lease renewals totaling more than 130,000 square feet with COMSOL, Black Duck Software, and Regus. On-site dining favorites Press Café and Tuscan Kitchen also extended their leases through 2037.
These commitments highlight The District Burlington’s reputation as one of the most dynamic mixed-use office destinations in the region—offering state-of-the-art amenities, flexible workspace options, and a vibrant atmosphere for companies and employees alike.
“Our vision for The District has always been to offer a next-generation workplace that combines high-performance office space with curated amenities and a vibrant, convenient location,” said Maura Moffatt, Director of Asset Management at National Development. “We’re proud that State Street is continuing to grow here, leveraging The District’s dynamic environment to support its evolving workforce and strategic workplace plan.”
A Modern Workplace for a Hybrid Workforce
The renewed lease reflects State Street’s flexible workplace strategy, which provides its 8,000+ Massachusetts-based employees with the ability to work across offices in Boston, Burlington, and Quincy. This approach enhances collaboration and productivity while supporting a hybrid model that reduces commuting time and aligns with the firm’s sustainability and employee-wellbeing goals.
Located in the heart of Burlington’s 8 million square feet of Class A commercial space, The District spans 1.3 million square feet of premier workspace designed to meet the needs of leading-edge companies. Tenants benefit from a robust amenity package that includes:
