BOSTON–Juann Khoory has joined CannonDesign as a senior vice president and the design leader for Boston office.
Recognized for her ability to help organizations bring their visions to life through design, Juann will lead the design of projects across New England — spanning the health, science, commercial and education sectors. She’ll also harness her talents to mentor aspiring designers and push forward new levels of creativity and innovation within our Boston office and across our firm.
Juann joins CannonDesign with more than 30 years of experience as an architect and design leader, most recently with Elkus Manfredi Architects. Her portfolio spans building types for clients across industries, ranging from Jones Lang La Salle and Saint-Gobain Research North America to Emory University, Bronson Methodist Hospital, The Jackson Laboratory, Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, and Daytona International Speedway.
“As our firm grows, we look to hire individuals who can really challenge us and help our clients realize unexpected possibilities,” said Lynne Deninger, leader of CannonDesign’s Boston office. “Juann is undoubtedly that type of designer. Her thoughtful approach to design is evident in the projects she leads, and her talents will play a key role in elevating design excellence on every project we touch.”
Juann’s passion is problem solving. In design, she does this by employing a holistic and integrated approach — one that explores design problems from multiple angles and leverages data and diverse thinking. Her success doing this is largely attributed to her experience working on projects spanning building types and industries. According to Juann, this diversity of work leads to the cross-pollination of ideas across projects, which spurs new levels of innovation.
“Innovation happens when we start to look at traditional problems with new ways of thinking,” said Juann. “By considering how mixed-use projects can inspire healthcare spaces, or how community centers can inspire research labs, we can begin to cast a new vision for what these important buildings can be. CannonDesign is known for finding inspiration in unexpected places, and I’m excited to help the firm push new ideas forward.”
Juann has her master’s in architecture from Carnegie Mellon University. She serves on the Design Review Board in her town of Wellesley, Massachusetts, and previously chaired the Build Boston (now ABX) Women in Design Conference and organized workshops on women in design, science and technology.
