Boston— Harvard Federal Credit Union (Harvard FCU) has officially opened the doors to its newest branch at One Brigham Circle in Boston’s Mission Hill neighborhood, marking a major milestone in the institution’s 86-year history.
With the recent transition to a federal charter, Harvard FCU can now serve eligible residents outside of the Harvard University community for the first time ever.
Located at 1614 Tremont Street, the new branch sits at the heart of the Longwood Medical Area and Mission Hill, a strategic location that underscores Harvard FCU’s longstanding relationship with health care providers in the area. The expansion allows the credit union to extend its financial services to a broader audience, including neighborhood residents and small businesses.
To celebrate, Harvard FCU and Mission Hill Main Streets will host a grand opening celebration on Tuesday, August 12, starting at 9 a.m. The event will include refreshments, tours of the new space, opportunities to meet the credit union’s staff, and a chance to learn about limited-time promotions that could earn attendees up to $300 in incentives. The celebration is open to the public, including local residents, hospital employees, Harvard affiliates, and existing members.
“Our newest branch, located at the corner of Mission Hill and Longwood, reinforces our commitment to empower our members to make a positive impact in their lives and communities,” said Craig Leonard, CEO of Harvard Federal Credit Union. “This new space will allow us to better serve the Longwood hospitals and provide neighborhood residents with the tools, resources, and education to fit their financial needs.”
As part of its community-driven mission, Harvard FCU will also donate $5,000 to Mission Hill Main Streets, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing the neighborhood’s commercial districts and supporting local businesses and residents.
“Community means everything to us here in our close-knit Mission Hill neighborhood,” said Courtney Wright, Executive Director of Mission Hill Main Streets. “Harvard Federal Credit Union shares those same core values and principles. It’s comforting to know that residents and business owners will now have more accessible banking options and in-person access to knowledgeable staff who can help them navigate their financial journey.”
Harvard FCU offers a wide range of financial products—from home loans and savings accounts to retirement planning tools—and places strong emphasis on financial literacy and community reinvestment. A portion of the credit union’s profits are funneled into educational programs and local charitable initiatives.
