LEOMINSTER, MA — Green Leaf Construction has been recognized as a national leader in workplace safety, earning a prestigious National Health and Safety Merit Award from Associated Builders and Contractors.
The award was presented at the 36th annual Excellence in Construction® Awards during ABC Convention 2026, held March 19 in Salt Lake City. Green Leaf was among just 59 contractors nationwide to receive this honor, underscoring its strong commitment to maintaining high safety standards across its operations.
Company leadership credited the achievement to a deeply embedded culture of safety. President Andy McBeth said the recognition reflects the dedication of team members who prioritize doing their work correctly while ensuring that everyone returns home safely each day.
The award is based on rigorous evaluation criteria, including safety performance metrics, innovation in safety programs, and comprehensive reviews by ABC’s National Health and Safety Committee. Eligible companies must have achieved top-tier status—Diamond, Platinum, or Gold—in ABC’s STEP® Health and Safety Management System, which benchmarks industry safety performance.
According to Thomas Murphy, Green Leaf’s safety record stands well above industry norms. He noted that the company’s approach reflects a strong “culture of care” and positions it as an employer of choice in the construction sector, with safety performance levels significantly exceeding the industry average.
The National Health and Safety Excellence Awards recognize contractors across three major industry categories: building construction, heavy and civil engineering, and specialty trade contractors. The STEP program, which underpins the awards, helps participating firms measure and improve safety practices, often resulting in incident rates far below national averages reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
