MARLBOROUGH, MA— Finegold Alexander Architects has completed the first purpose-built academic building on the campus of the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School (AMSA) in Marlborough, marking a significant milestone in the school’s long-term campus evolution.

The newly opened 17,000-square-foot Main Building welcomed students at the start of the 2025–2026 school year and will serve the Class of 2032 as the first cohort to utilize the facility throughout their entire middle and high school experience. The building houses administrative offices, modern classrooms, and science laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art instructional technology, expanding AMSA’s capacity to support rigorous, STEM-focused learning.

Founded in 2005, AMSA is a public charter school with a mission to provide a college-preparatory education centered on math, science, and technology for students from diverse backgrounds. Today, the school serves 966 students in grades 6–12, drawing from more than 30 communities across Greater Boston. The campus occupies three buildings at 165, 199, and 201 Forest Street, located within a former office park.

Finegold Alexander worked closely with AMSA leadership to align the physical campus with the school’s demanding academic program and long-term growth goals. In addition to designing the new academic building, the project included a reconfiguration of campus circulation to improve safety and efficiency during student pick-up and drop-off. The redesign clearly separates pedestrian and vehicular traffic, enhancing the daily experience for students, families, and staff.

“We are thrilled to see the completion of the new Main Building—a place designed to support curiosity, collaboration, and discovery,” said Regan Shields Ives, principal and K–12 studio leader at Finegold Alexander. “Partnering with AMSA’s leadership to create a space that enriches the student learning experience and expands the school’s academic footprint has been incredibly rewarding.”

Finegold Alexander brings a strong track record in educational design, with expertise spanning both renovations and new construction. Its New England portfolio includes projects such as the Gladstone Elementary School in Cranston, Rhode Island, Joseph Case Junior High School in Swansea, and the New Educational Facility for The Community Group in Lawrence. AMSA selected the firm for its deep understanding of K–12 environments and its ability to tailor design solutions to the school’s unique instructional model.

“Finegold Alexander has done an incredible job transforming our campus into a modern, 21st-century educational environment that truly fosters student learning and creativity,” said Dr. Lisa C. Mobley, Executive Director of AMSA. “These new spaces will allow us to serve our students more effectively and make a lasting impact on their academic experience.”

The completion of the Main Building represents the first new construction on the AMSA campus and underscores the growing investment in high-quality educational facilities across Massachusetts, as schools adapt their physical environments to support evolving teaching methods and student needs.
