BOSTON, Mass. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a public meeting April 21 to provide updates and answer questions regarding the Lower Neponset River Superfund Site, officials announced Wednesday.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pryde Community Center, 59 Harvard Ave., Hyde Park. Public parking is available across from the Hyde Park Branch of the Boston Public Library or on nearby streets. Residents unable to attend in person can join via Zoom at https://usepa.zoomgov.com/j/1609617554.

The Lower Neponset River Superfund Site includes a 3.7-mile stretch of the Neponset River and its floodplains, from its confluence with Mother Brook in Hyde Park to the Walter Baker Dam in Dorchester and Milton. Field studies have found elevated levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and other hazardous substances in the river’s sediments and surrounding soils.

The site spans approximately 40 acres along a channel that ranges from 40 to 300 feet wide and touches residential, commercial, industrial, and public land, including the Neponset River Greenway.

The EPA said the meeting will cover ongoing work and future cleanup plans for the river, with staff on hand to address community questions and concerns.
