Weymouth, Mass. – CTA Construction Managers on Monday joined Town of Weymouth officials and other community leaders at the formal ribbon cutting for the new Tufts Library – a 50,000 square foot facility located on Broad Street in Weymouth.
“A public library is one of the most fundamental and often cherished municipal facilities in any community. It has been a great honor and incredibly satisfying for our team to help create the new Tufts Library for Weymouth,” said Paul DuRoss, Principal at CTA Construction. “Everyone involved had to overcome some obstacles and logistical challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that makes this day all the more special.”
The new library features a greatly expanded children’s literature department, several community meeting rooms, innovative technological advancements, and an outdoor amphitheater. In addition, the building features a large lobby with a café for patrons, a digital media lab with updated computer software and space designated specifically for teen activities.
“The New Tufts Library will be a valued part of the Weymouth community for decades to come. I appreciate the partnership and efforts of the great team we put together, including CTA Construction, who helped make today a reality,” said Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund.
CTA Construction worked closely with the City of Weymouth, project architect Tappe Architects, Inc. and the owner’s project manager, Hill International, on the Tufts Library project. It was a cooperative venture between the Town of Weymouth and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, which awarded Weymouth over $12 million for the construction of a new library.
“With our groundbreaking occurring in March 2019, we had an aggressive timeline to open one of the best public libraries in the Commonwealth and we’ve done it,” said Rob MacLean, Director of Library Services. “Now the citizens of Weymouth can benefit from this much-needed investment in our community.”
Waltham-based CTA Construction has completed more than 75 high-quality municipal construction projects in the Commonwealth since it was founded in 2000, making the company one of the most experienced municipal builders in the state.
