SAN DIEGO- Coffman Engineers, Inc., a national multidiscipline engineering firm, announced they have reached a definitive merger agreement with San Diego-based ABBOTT Engineering. The merger deal will close on Sept. 13, 2019.

The addition of ABBOTT expands Coffman’s engineering service offerings in California by adding mechanical engineering and strengthens their portfolio in commercial, government, higher education, K-12 schools, industrial, and residential services.

Coffman and ABBOTT have partnered on projects for several years and in early 2018 started discussing a merger. ABBOTT’s service offerings, values, and culture align naturally with Coffman and both firms agreed that merging would benefit clients and provide opportunities for employees.

“Partnering with Coffman Engineers allows ABBOTT Engineering to continue to provide mechanical and plumbing engineering to our clients and also offer additional multidiscipline services,” said Louis Abbott, ABBOTT Engineering owner. “It also allows us to look toward expanding our services in California. It was important for us to find a partner that shares the same vision, culture, and technical excellence and we found that in Coffman.”

ABBOTT’s 11 employees will join Coffman’s San Diego office for a combined staff of 62. Louis Abbott will become the mechanical principal and joins Scott Twele, managing principal, and six additional principal owners.

“I am excited to be joining forces with Louis Abbott and his team. He is a great guy and built a company with an outstanding reputation of technical excellence and service to their clients,” said Dave Ruff, Coffman Engineers, president and CEO. “I am particularly excited about ABBOTT Engineering being the first mechanical group in California. I can’t think of a better-suited team to lead this effort.”
