BOSTON– Charlestown residents gathered this weekend to celebrate the long-anticipated opening of Bunker Hill Laundromat, the neighborhood’s only laundromat, at 194 Bunker Hill Street. Developed by Related Beal, the new facility fills a vital gap in local services and marks a key milestone in the firm’s $150 million investment in Charlestown’s Rutherford Avenue and Sullivan Square corridor.

“For too long, Charlestown was without a single laundromat—a basic service every neighborhood deserves,” said State Senator Lydia Edwards, who previously served as a Boston City Councilor. “That absence was more than an inconvenience; it was a disservice to working families, seniors, and residents. When I was a Boston city councilor, I made it a priority to change that. I’m proud to stand with the community as we celebrate the opening of the Bunker Hill Laundromat—a place that represents an investment in our residents’ quality of life.”

The Bunker Hill Laundromat offers residents modern, accessible services, including high-capacity washing machines, energy-efficient dryers, folding stations, and a laundry card kiosk for contactless payments. The clean, safe, and conveniently located facility is designed to meet the needs of families, seniors, and individuals in one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods.

Mayor Michelle Wu applauded the community-driven project, saying, “The new Bunker Hill Laundromat will ensure Charlestown residents and families have access to a critical service and resource that has been long overdue for the neighborhood. The creation of this laundromat followed years of advocacy from our community members and local elected officials. I’m grateful to Related Beal and all of our partners for making today’s opening a reality and improving the quality of life for Charlestown’s families.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew community members, local leaders, and project partners, highlighting the strong collaboration that made the project possible.

“The Bunker Hill Laundromat is the direct result of ongoing dialogue with residents and community stakeholders,” said Aisha Miller, Vice President at Related Beal. “Our goal is always to further enrich the lives of the people who make our neighborhoods special, and to listen to them when they tell us what they want and need. We heard that this amenity was missing from the community, and we are thrilled to provide it as we grow our presence in Charlestown.”

The laundromat is part of Related Beal’s broader strategy to revitalize the area surrounding its Charlestown Labs development. Alongside the laundromat, the firm is completing 420 and 440 Rutherford Avenue, two mixed-use buildings aimed at bringing commercial, recreational, and life sciences space to the area.

Recent investments by Related Beal in Charlestown also include:

A new Bluebikes station to enhance local mobility.

Open space improvements funded through Boston’s Parks and Recreation Department.

A redesigned pedestrian-friendly streetscape to improve neighborhood safety and walkability.

A lease with PickleBos, a pickleball facility slated to open later this year at 440 Rutherford Avenue.

At 420 Rutherford, the company has finished core and shell work on a 112,000-square-foot, purpose-built lab building that offers direct MBTA access and serves as a gateway to both Charlestown and nearby Cambridge.
