BOSTON—Architect Jeremy Baldwin, Multifamily Studio Leader at Maugel DeStefano Architects, says it is very important to pay attention to new energy codes in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts’ changing building energy codes and regulations are intended to reach the state’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. The changes are significant and require architects, engineers, and the building industry professionals to be well-versed with these codes.

Right now, there are three different energy codes in Massachusetts. One is the Base Code, the second is the Stretch Code, and the third is the Specialized Net-Zero Opt-In Code. What all of these codes require should be part of the conversation with the developer to see first what municipality they’re in and which code they’re under. All municipalities have not adopted all these codes.

Mr Baldwin answers all these questions in an exclusive interview with Boston Real Estate Times.
