WORCESTER, MA–A major new housing development is moving ahead in Worcester following a series of city approvals that will bring nearly 500 luxury apartments to the city’s east side, Worcester Business Journal reported.
Grafton Woods Luxury Living, a 491-unit residential complex planned for a 17.7-acre parcel off Grafton Street, is being developed by Brandt Lane Development, a Holden-based firm that purchased the site for $4.3 million in 2023.
The site, which currently contains a single-family home and various stockpiles of junk, will undergo significant remediation as part of the construction process, including the cleanup of waste materials and the reconstruction of Brandt Lane, according to reporting by the Worcester Business Journal.
The project has received approvals from the Worcester Planning Board (September), the Zoning Board of Appeals (March), and the Conservation Commission (May), paving the way for construction to begin, though a formal groundbreaking date has not been announced.
According to a August 15 announcement from Harvard-based Maugel DeStefano Architects, who designed the project, the complex will consist of five four-story residential buildings, a parking deck, and common green space featuring lawn areas, pickleball courts, and a bicycle corral. In total, 793 parking spaces are planned for the development, which will span 688,544 square feet, including 3,500 square feet of commercial space.
The Worcester Business Journal reports that the project will transform the currently underutilized site into a substantial new residential hub. While no construction timeline has been officially released, the multiple city approvals mark a key step toward breaking ground.
This project adds to the growing list of large-scale residential developments reshaping Worcester’s housing landscape, signaling continued confidence in the city’s growth and demand for modern, amenity-rich housing options.
