WESTBROOK, ME—Waterstone Properties announced that it has signed an Element by Westin Hotel as the latest addition to the 110-acre Rock Row development in Westbrook, Maine. The hotel is slated to open in 2022.
“Rock Row is unlike any development and Element Hotels is unlike any hotel, which makes for a perfect fit,” said Josh Levy, co-founding principal of Waterstone Properties, developers of the project that features a 400-foot wide, 300-deep granite quarry as a scenic and unique centerpiece. “We envision creating a world-class hotel that’s inspired by the outdoors and will offer vibrant, natural living and smart, fresh thinking. It will reinforce the appeal and excitement of Rock Row.
“In collaboration with the city and the community, we’ve been working hard for years on permitting and planning. With this announcement and other exciting news and events we’ll be sharing in the next few months, Rock Row is coming to life,” Levy added.
The planned 122-room hotel will rise high above the quarry lake and offer sweeping views of Rock Row. It will be surrounded by walking paths and green spaces brought to life by an eclectic range of events annually including outdoor concerts, road races, art festivals and more. With an outdoor-inspired design philosophy that is clean, modern and bright, the Element Hotel will feature eco-conscious practices and an innovative guest experience that resonates with today’s active traveler who wants to maintain a balanced lifestyle while on the road.
“We are excited to make an entrance into Greater Portland and be part of the Rock Row experience,” said Jared Schillinger, Vice President of Brandt Hospitality Group, operators of the hotel. “The Element by Westin brand has a focus on livability and healthy living and will be very complementary to the balance of the Rock Row development. Rock Row is a phenomenal vision and we look forward to watching it come to life.”
When it opens, the hotel at Rock Row will join 41 Element by Westin properties that are open in six countries and territories around the world.
The hotel will join the LIVE NATION Maine Savings Music Pavilion, Market Basket, Starbucks, a 12-screen Cinemark, The Paper Store, a flagship outdoor recreational retailer, a beer & food hall and other retail, dining, entertainment, office and residential offerings in the second largest retail and mixed use development in New England. Waterstone Properties purchased the quarry site in 2017; the $600 million project is the first of its kind in the state.
