LAS VEGAS – Cambridge Health Alliance, The Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, was named one of the most significant construction projects of 2022, the Associated General Contractors of America announced.
As a result, the project’s contractor, Walsh Brothers, Incorporated received the association’s Construction Risk Partners Build America Award for the best construction management renovation project valued under $99 million.
“These awards are designed to set a new minimum standard of excellence for the construction industry,” said Tom Brown, the association’s vice president and president of Sierra Pacific West, Inc. in San Diego. “Considering what went into building this project, that minimum standard is extremely high.”
Walsh Brothers built a new Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry for the Cambridge Health Alliance to help the Alliance cope with the exponential growth in mental healthcare issues among children resulting from the COVID-19 lockdowns. The Walsh Brothers team rapidly transformed the Somerville campus by renovating five floors of an existing structure to provide 69 patient beds and a food service cafeteria. The team had to carefully coordinate all construction activity because they were working directly above an active hospital and could not disrupt ongoing care and operations.
“On behalf of Construction Risk Partners, we are honored to partner with the AGC in celebrating the creativity, ingenuity, and resiliency of this year’s Build America Award winners and nominees,” said Joe Charczenko of Construction Risk Partners. “It is with an unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and engineering excellence that these organizations seek to catapult the construction sector to new heights. The scope and grandeur of the projects our contractors are delivering to the communities where we live and work is in perfect alignment with the best-in-class mentality that the construction sector strives for. And we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the AGC for fueling the industry’s excitement for project innovation while creating a supportive and collaborative environment for our construction community.”
The Construction Risk Partners Build America Awards highlight the nation’s most significant construction projects. A panel of judges, representing all areas of construction, evaluated an impressive number of submissions this year, assessing each project’s complexity, use of innovative construction techniques and client satisfaction, among other criteria. The awards, which were announced during the association’s annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, are considered by many to be the most prestigious recognition of construction accomplishments in the U.S.
