BOSTON & NEW YORK CITY—SGA, the Boston and New York City-based national award-winning architecture, interior design, planning, branded environments and virtual design and construction practice, today announced that the firm has been named to Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2021.

The list honors the businesses that have not only found a way to be resilient in the past year, but also turned those challenges into impact making processes. These companies did more than survive, they thrived—making an impact on their industries and culture as a whole.

“Specialists in designing flexible life sciences spaces that can adapt to new technology and conditions, SGA’s approach to architecture has become vital in the age of the pandemic,” Fast Company said. “In the designs it’s created over the past year for more than 4 million square feet of new life science facilities in Greater Boston, SGA has applied some of the lessons of the pandemic to create spaces with movable cabinetry and modular mechanical systems where researchers and scientists can quickly adapt to changing conditions and global needs – buildings that are ready for whatever scientific challenges lie ahead.”

This year’s Most Innovative Companies list features 463 businesses from 29 countries. This is the second time SGA has been recognized as one of the most innovative companies after the firm debuted on this coveted list in 2018.

“In past year, SGA led the nation in delivering Life Sciences facilities that respond to emerging science trends, while also facilitating and creating opportunities for leading-edge discovery methods,” said Adam Spagnolo, a Partner and Director of Marketing at SGA. “SGA is advancing architecture and engineering innovation by designing for adaptability—the firm strives to create environments that enhance research productivity at their core. SGA is at the forefront of Life Sciences facilities that feature flexible infrastructure, de-mountable casework, and modular mechanical systems designed to accommodate new and evolving uses.”

Fast Company’s editors and writers sought out the most groundbreaking businesses across the globe and industries. They also judged nominations received through their application process.

The World’s Most Innovative Companies is Fast Company’s signature franchise and one of its most highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. It provides both a snapshot and a road map for the future of innovation across the most dynamic sectors of the economy.

“In a year of unprecedented challenges, the companies on this list exhibit fearlessness, ingenuity, and creativity in the face of crisis,” said Fast Company Deputy Editor David Lidsky, who oversaw the issue with Senior Editor Amy Farley.
