BOSTON—SGA, the Boston and New York City-based national award-winning architecture, interior design, planning, branded environments and virtual design and construction practice, today announced that Boston’s DHK and SGA have teamed up to design and permit Cronin Development’s proposed 235,500-square-foot, eight-story, laboratory and R&D facility at 24 Drydock Ave. in Boston’s Seaport district.

Boston-based Cronin Development has submitted a proposal to the Boston Planning and Development Agency to demolish the existing building at 24 Drydock Ave., to be replaced with a new state-of-the-art facility. The site which currently includes a three-story building, and faces the Innovation and Design Building in Boston’s Seaport District, will become part of the rapidly changing neighborhood.

“We are looking forward to making 24 Drydock Ave. a part of Boston’s rapidly evolving Seaport District innovation cluster, while also retaining its marine industry roots,” said Jeff Tompkins, IIDA, LEED AP, Founding Partner at SGA. “We are proud to be a part of the architectural team for this project.”

Brookline’s Verdant Landscape Architecture has also joined SGA on 24 Drydock Ave.’s architectural team.

In 2017, officials had identified 24 Drydock Ave. as a building that was vacant and in significant disrepair. In Cronin Development’s proposal, the first floor of the 235,500-square-foot building would be leased to Boston Ship Repair (the previous holder of the lease) for offices as well as other amenities.

Cronin Development is also partnering with nonprofit organizations to provide training and workforce development space in the building, including English for the New Bostonians, Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, Ron Burton Training Village and The Nubian Shuttle.
