BEVERLY – Sciessent LLC recently relocated its corporate headquarters and development center to a 12,000-square-foot custom lab and office space at 100 Cummings Center in Beverly.

This space will operate as Sciessent’s innovation hub for its global business and offices. This is the second stint for the specialty materials firm at Cummings Center. It was based there in 1998 before moving to a Cummings Properties-managed building on Wakefield’s Audubon Road, where it has remained for the past 19 years.

With various branded technologies, including Agion®, Lava XL®, Agion Active XL, and Curb®, Sciessent develops antimicrobial, anti-odor, and water-repellent products that are used in healthcare, textiles and apparel, water filtration, and industrial surfaces.

“We are so fortunate to have amazing customers, partners, and employees all around the world who have helped our organization grow,” said Joe Geary, executive vice president of Sciessent. “Our investment in the new headquarters represents our commitment to developing innovative technologies and providing an environment for our employees that cultivates their passion for innovation.”

Sciessent worked with Cummings Properties’ in-house leasing, architectural, and construction teams to custom-design the facility. The design incorporates state-of-the-art development space, complete with textile, microbiology, and chemistry laboratories, into the flow of the numerous windowed office and meeting spaces, and even includes a brand-new rooftop deck.

“The client’s chosen finishes, with a recycled-wood wall and pendant light fixtures, nicely accent the open ceilings, together showcasing the building’s industrial history and creating a high-end, modern look,” said Stephanie Aitchison, associate general manager of Cummings Center. “In addition to incorporating interior walls of glass, our team installed numerous new exterior windows, giving the whole space a bright and airy feel.”

The largest office campus on the North Shore, Cummings Center houses a mix of corporate headquarters, retail and service businesses, medical offices, software firms, research laboratories, and micro-businesses.

“We are pleased to welcome Sciessent to our thriving North Shore cluster of more than 50 other science and technology-driven firms, including North Shore InnoVentures, New England Biolabs, Qiagen, and Waters Technologies,” said Aitchison. “We were delighted that the size and diversity of Cummings Properties’ real estate portfolio has allowed us to continuously accommodate this valued client for more than 20 years, and look forward to serving its real estate needs for many years to come.”

Cummings Properties manages a portfolio of 11 million square feet of commercial space in 11 suburban communities north and west of Boston. Most of these properties are owned by Cummings Foundation, with 100 percent of all rental profits supporting hundreds of local charities. The Cummings organization awards $25 million annually to Greater Boston nonprofits, and it has awarded more than $225 million to date.
