LAWRENCE, MA– Lupoli Companies announced that Riverwalk Lawrence and Lupoli Companies has been awarded The Mayor Thomas M. Menino Legacy Award, which is given to preservation projects that are transformative, community-focused and revitalize the best of the past to make something good for the future.

Preservation Massachusetts will hold an awards dinner to recognize and celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to preserving the Commonwealth’s historic resources. On May 9, 2018, they will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Paul & Niki Tsongas Award while also giving out the 4th annual The Mayor Thomas M. Menino Legacy Award.

Mayor Menino was a mentor and inspiration to Sal Lupoli, President and CEO of Lupoli Companies which owns and develops Riverwalk Lawrence. Encouraging Lupoli to work on properties in culturally diverse city’s like his beloved Boston, Mayor Menino’s advice genuinely influenced and motivated the long-term vision for Riverwalk and brought new life to the Merrimack Valley. Lupoli harnessed the power of historic preservation to give the people who live in Lawrence great opportunities to achieve success through job creation, economic improvements and community outreach.

“My favorite part of being in the Gateway City of Lawrence is the impact that you can have by being a local developer that creates change in the city. By creating change, you create new taxes and new jobs and that translates to better schools, more police, and more self-pride. To be able to say that you made a difference in a Gateway City is the same as saying you made a difference in someone’s life,” says Sal Lupoli, CEO, Lupoli Companies.

“Riverwalk Lawrence is truly a remarkable story of perseverance and the power of preservation,” says Jim Igoe, president of Preservation Massachusetts. “When we sought to honor the memory of Mayor Menino with this award, we wanted to recognize projects that were transformative, catalytic and truly engaged and benefited the community. What Lupoli Companies has done with Riverwalk embodies the essence of the award and more. We are excited to be honoring this project and the Lupoli Companies on May 9 and hope it serves to inspire similar projects across Massachusetts.”

Riverwalk continues to revitalize the city through job creation and new services, all located within its live-work-play development. Residents of Lawrence now have access to a wide range of doctors, dentistry, rehabilitation facilities, pharmacies, elder services and urgent care right in their own community.
